Inspects progress of construction work; issues strict instructions for adherence to set timeline

BUDGAM, NOVEMBER 11 (KNO) : Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, Saturday visited the campus site of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) here at Ompora Budgam to take stock of ongoing construction work for the campus there. Dr. Shah, who has been appointed as the new Director of the Srinagar campus of the NIFT, while taking a detailed review of the status of construction at the site, expressed displeasure over slow progress of work. He issued strict instructions to the concerned executing agencies to speed up the pace of work and warned that non-adherence to timeline stipulations as indicated in the contract will result in cancellation of contracts and blacklisting of contractors. He directed that four walling of the campus, which was set to be completed in nine months since allotment in December 2016, must be completed by the next month. Dr. Shah instructed to expedite the pace of work on hostels at the campus adding there shall be visible progress in one month time. He said the progress of the construction will now be reviewed on weekly basis. Dr. Shah said NIFT is a highly prestigious project and any laxity in meeting projected timelines will not be tolerated. The DC also visited the temporary campus of the Institute at Rangreth to inspect facilities available for students there. He issued on-spot instructions to the concerned to take care of all immediate requirements of the campus. He also directed for beautification of the campus. Dr. Shah also interacted with the students at the campus on the occasion and took note of their concerns and suggestions. GM SIDCO, concerned Executive Engineers and contractors were present on the occasion. The NIFT Srinagar campus to be established at a cost of Rs. 237 crore is spread over 133 kanals of land. The opening of the campus is expected to enhance the scope of textiles and handicraft sectors as well as boost entrepreneurship industry in fashion textile industry in the State.
